What is CNC Turning

Numerical control turning is a manufacturing process that utilizes CNC lathes to shape rotating parts with precision.

In the CNC turning process, the tool moves smoothly in a straight line along the workpiece’s axis and also vertically during the feed movement, allowing for the creation of various shapes and sizes on rotating surfaces, such as cylinders, cones, threads, grooves, and more.

Advantages of CNC Turning

  • High precision machining is possible to achieve very small tolerances, thus ensuring the quality and consistency of parts.
  • It has high production efficiency. Through the automatic processing process, the time and error of manual operation are reduced, and a large number of the same parts can be processed quickly.
  • It is very flexible. The CNC program can be easily adapted to different shapes and sizes of parts processing to meet diverse production needs.
  • Ability to process complex shapes and contours, such as threads, cones, surfaces, etc.
  • The scrap rate is relatively low, saving materials and costs.

What is CNC Milling

CNC milling is a process that utilizes a CNC milling machine to effectively shape a workpiece.

During CNC milling, the tool moves and cuts along multiple axes, allowing for the machining of various complex planes, surfaces, cavities, holes, and other intricate features. This technique is widely applied in machinery manufacturing, mold processing, aerospace, and many other fields, enabling efficient and precise production of parts and products that meet design specifications.

Advantages of CNC Milling

  • It can achieve high-precision machining, can achieve minimal tolerance requirements, and ensure the high quality and consistency of parts.
  • With excellent flexibility, machining paths and parameters can be easily adjusted through programming to adapt to parts of different shapes and complexity.
  • It can process a variety of complex shapes and structures, including three-dimensional surfaces, deep cavities, thin walls, etc.
  • High production efficiency, automatic processing process reduces manual intervention, greatly shortening the processing time.
  • Good repeatability, as long as the program is unchanged, it can ensure that the parts processed each time have the same accuracy and quality.

CNC Machining of Materials

The types of materials used in CNC machining are much richer and more diverse than sheet metal fabrication. In addition to common metals, CNC machining is also widely used in other materials such as plastics. This diversity allows CNC machining to meet the needs of different fields and industries for product performance, function and beauty.

In our daily production process, the following are some commonly used CNC machining materials:

Metal

  • Stainless steel
  • Carbon steel
  • Alloy steel
  • Aluminum
  • Copper
  • Brass
  • Titanium alloy
  • Magnesium alloy

Plastic

  • Polyformaldehyde (POM)
  • Polycarbonate (PC)
  • Nylon (PA)
  • Polythene (PE)
